“Must lawyers be SINGLE animals?”

Lawyers tend to have well… pretty crummy love lives. Many stay single. Many find themselves single again in midlife. With long hours and the high level of stress normal in this profession, many lawyers become over-worked and over-focused on work. This leads to less attention to their own personal well-being and the quality of their love relationships.

Do these sound familiar?

Ms. A: “I haven't seen my boyfriend for ONE month! Lawyers have the WORST work schedules in the world! ”

Ms. B: ”My boyfriend spends FAR MORE time with his laptop than the time he spends with me.”

Lawyer C: ”I'm involved in never-ending projects. I've NO time to start my love life.”

Lawyer D: ”We had to close a deal. It was essential I be there. I had to postpone my trip to the Maldives with my girlfriend. She didn't understand.“

Lawyer E: ”During my last year of law study, I was an intern in a top-tier international law firm. Two of my classmates accepted positions in this firm. They are now separated or divorced because of the demands of their work.”

The hellish hours and strenuous work pressure bring financial rewards and career advancement to be sure. But, what about the costs?—lost satisfaction gained from a loving relationship

Is there a way to have a legal career plus love? Is there a middle way where lawyers can commit to their job and also have a love life? Consultants in the fields are fairly consistent about the key strategies required to maintain love relationships.

Communication is essential…..active listening is required….to keep your love boat afloat…

The high stress job brings unhappiness…..don't bring home your own unhappiness…

Maintain your personal health and well-being by finding ways—that work for you—to relieve stress…an unbalanced lifestyle can easily lead to resentment toward your romantic partner

For a little fun answer the question…..and learn how your dating compares.

NASA was interviewing professionals to be sent to Mars. Only one could go and couldn't return to Earth.

The first applicant, an engineer, was asked how much he wanted to be paid for going. "A million dollars," he answered, "because I want to donate it to M.I.T."

The next applicant, a doctor, was asked the same question. He asked for $2 million. "I want to give a million to my family," he explained, "and leave the other million for the advancement of medical research."

The last applicant was a lawyer. When asked how much money he wanted, he whispered in the interviewer's ear, "Three million dollars."

"Why so much more than the others?" asked the interviewer.

The lawyer replied, "If you give me $3 million, I'll give you $1 million, I'll keep $1 million, and we'll send the engineer to Mars."
